Deion Sanders didn’t try to spin it.
Arizona State beat the Colorado Buffaloes 20-10 on Nov. 7, leaving them at 3-6, and the head coach told reporters afterward that his program has fallen short of where it should be.
His opening assessment was blunt.

“The season don’t look good,” Sanders said. “It don’t look good. I’m not crazy. I can see clearly. You think I’m happy? I’m not happy with the outcomes. I’m not a loser by any means, and I hate the fact that we’re coming up on the short end of these games.”
That result pushed his record with the Buffaloes to 19-27 across four seasons.
What bothers him most, Sanders said, is what the losing means for the fans and the players.
“It’s not a personal hurt for me, I hurt because you guys deserve better and the team deserves better. We should win. We should put our best foot forward. And I’m not seeing that,” Sanders said.

He walked through the box score, then admitted his players simply hadn’t been good enough. The fan base, he added, “deserves better.”
Those numbers weren’t kind. Colorado came into the matchup averaging 21.0 points per game across eight contests, the lowest mark of any offense in the Big 12.
Against Arizona State, the Buffaloes went into halftime without a point. Their lone touchdown didn’t arrive until they trailed 20-3 with a little more than eight minutes left in the final quarter.
Colorado opened 2-0, then dropped six of its next seven.
It’s a far cry from 2024, when Sanders’ second team finished 9-4. The Buffaloes have gone 6-15 in the two seasons that followed.
In the end, the coach pointed at himself.
“We’ve just got to do better,” Sanders said. “And that starts with me.”
At 19-27, Sanders sits eight games below .500 after four years in charge, and by his own account, turning that around begins with the head coach.
