After back-to-back national titles in 2023 and 2024, Dan Hurley kept UConn in the national spotlight again in 2025–26, guiding the Huskies to a 34–6 record and another deep March Madness run that ended in the national championship game.
That level of consistency has turned Storrs, Connecticut, into one of college basketball’s premier proving grounds, and it’s exactly why Hurley has continued to be able to land high-end talent across the country.
On Tuesday, April 28, that approach paid off again.

Wofford transfer Nils Machowski, a second team All-SoCon selection, is officially headed to UConn, a move that could significantly reshape the Huskies’ backcourt entering the 2026–27 season.

After spending his first two seasons in a limited role at UCF, Machowski transferred to Wofford and delivered a breakout campaign last season, averaging a career-high 17.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 33.7 minutes per game while starting all 32 contests.
The 6-foot-3 guard earned all-conference honors while shooting 43.3% from the field and 32.2% from 3. He also led the team in scoring with 551 total points, accounting for 21.8% of Wofford’s offensive production.
Machowski flashed his ceiling throughout the season, including a career-high 37-point performance against The Citadel on January 3.
He topped 30 points in two additional games, the most by a Wofford player in a single season since Fletcher Magee in 2018–19.
On the flip side, UConn is losing several key contributors from last season.

Seniors Tarris Reed Jr. and Alex Karaban, the Huskies’ two leading scorers, are both moving on, leaving a significant production gap.
Even with guards Solo Ball, Silas Demary Jr., and Braylon Mullins returning, the departure of forward Jaylin Stewart (transfer to SMU) opens up valuable minutes, particularly on the wing, for a scorer like Machowski to step in and make an immediate impact.
He won’t be asked to carry the offense, but he profiles as an ideal complementary weapon within what the Huskies already have.
Hurley also bolstered the frontcourt by adding Nikolas Khamenia (Duke) and Najai Hines (Seton Hall), meaning that Machowski will likely slot in as a key rotation guard behind Ball, Demary, and Mullins.
