The Tar Heels program isn't normally known for football success but Belichick is determined to change that fact. North Carolina believes that the former New England Patriots head coach is the person to do the job and that he can get this program going strong.

Belichick has never coached in college football so this will be a new challenge for him. With all the new rules around college sports, Belichick will have his hands full but if anyone can succeed, it could be him.

The veteran is often seen as the greatest head coach in NFL history, having won six Super Bowl titles in New England. While none of that matters when it comes to college success, his football knowledge should be able to help him navigate through everything.

North Carolina just let go of longtime head coach Mack Brown so Belichick will have some big shoes to fill. But the veteran has never backed down from anyone or any challenge during his coaching career.

The Tar Heels finished with a record of 6-7 last season, losing the Fenway Bowl to the UConn Huskies. The team has gone 6-7, 9-5, 8-5, and then 6-7 again over their past four seasons.

Belichick is going to have to find a way to get North Carolina competitive in a strong ACC Conference. Clemson, SMU, and Miami are all very good teams and should have some say in how the conference shakes out.

But teams like Virginia Tech, Duke, and Syracuse could also make some noise this year. There could be some growing pains for the Tar Heels but with Belichick at the helm, the program will feel a little better moving forward.
