Allowing Big 12 college ball fans to storm the field after an epic win? Well, prepare to have a somewhat deep wallet. Especially if you’re Cincinnati.
Well, maybe.
The Big 12 is now in the position to bring the hammer down after Bearcats’ fans raided Nippert Stadium field following their 37-24 win over the previously undefeated Texas Tech on Cincinnati’s 100th Homecoming.

Normally, field-storming comes with a $50,000 fine, but it depends on the incident itself and whether or not the visiting team was able to get safely off the field without any incident. Same with officials.
According to Sports Illustrated, some teams have dodged the high fine in the past.
“Colorado avoided a $50,000 bill in October 2025 after the league ruled the school ‘executed its field storm management procedures’ following a win over Iowa State,” SI said. “BYU escaped a fine a week later after beating Utah, and Oklahoma State avoided one in September even after fans hauled a goalpost into Theta Pond following a 39-31 upset of Oregon.”
The Big 12 could decide as soon as Tuesday, Sports Illustrated said.
Luckily, this isn’t the SEC, whose fine is a flat $500,000, which was dished out most recently to Tennessee after fans stormed the field following their 26-10 win over Alabama.
Cincinnati’s win over the Red Raiders was their first home win over an AP Top 10 opponent since 2006, GoBearCats.com reported.
“Overall, the Bearcats now have four wins against AP Top 10 opponents over the last 45 seasons,” the website said.
