More News: Lane Kiffin Chose LSU Over Florida for Good Reasons
In the meantime, interim head coach Biff Poggi is preparing the No. 18 Wolverines to play No. 13 Texas in the Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31. Michigan players have recently expressed why Poggi should earn the permanent gig.
“(Poggi) just truly cares about the people in the building," senior tight end Marlin Klein said, via Nick Durand of SB Nation. "Not just the coaches, not just the players, but really everybody. He cares about the janitor, and he wants to make sure that everyone’s doing good."
"He’s a Michigan man and he loves it here and everybody loves him. I do believe he’s the right person for this job.”
Senior Michigan linebacker Jimmy Rolder appreciates how Poggi has handled his job as the interim coach, going as far as to keep abreast the parents of players about what is going with the program. He's earned the trust of the locker room during a difficult time.
Poggi, 65, is in his third stint with Michigan. He was an analyst in 2016 before returning as an associate head coach for 2021 and 2022. He was hired before this season as the associate head coach.
Poggi has one stop as a head coach at the college level. He went 6-16 during his two seasons at Charlotte (2023, 2024).
