The 26-year-old will join his third team of his career after being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was sent to Utah from the Cavaliers as part of the massive Donovan Mitchell trade in the summer of 2022.

This past season, Sexton was solid for the Utah Jazz. In the season, he averaged 18.4 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from three in 27.9 minutes of action and 63 games.

The Hornets pick up a solid defensive guard on their side. Charlotte now has that plus a solid backup for their superstar guard LaMelo Ball. Although Sexton is more of a combo guard, he still has the ability to score and handle the ball at an efficient rate.

This is the second trade the Hornets have completed this offseason. On the first day of the NBA Draft on Wednesday, the Hornets sent their young star center Mark Williams to the Phoenix Suns. In exchange, the Hornets received the No. 29 pick and a 2029 first-round pick.

The Hornets selected UConn guard Liam McNeeley. With the Hornets now depleted in their frontcourt, expectations are that they will look to add depth in that position via free agency.

As for the Jazz, they bring in a veteran presence at center — a move that immediately raises questions about the future of rising big man Walker Kessler in Utah. Kessler has already been the subject of trade speculation, and with this latest addition, it's possible the Jazz are positioning themselves to move him in a deal they believe meets their asking price.

Nurkic, 30, suited up for 51 games last season between Phoenix and Charlotte, where he posted averages of 8.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across 20.8 minutes per contest.
