Michael Jordan is one of the greatest ever to pick up a basketball, given his illustrious resume, but another major facet that has added to the lore surrounding him is his killer instinct and competitive nature.

One of the teams that would frequently match up against Jordan and his Chicago Bulls was the New York Knicks. The battles that the two iconic franchises had through the 1990s created lifelong basketball fans and epitomized what it means to compete on the game's biggest stages.

Although Jordan can only be compared to a few, and the Bulls' dominance of the 90's is unmatched in the basketball world, former Knicks shooting guard John Starks recently opened up on the animosity he still feels towards Jordan. Specifically, he spoke on a now-iconic dunk on Jordan and teammate Horace Grant in the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals.

"It was pure adrenaline when I went for that dunk. I think they even measured it as 42in – which is probably my highest jump ever," Starks told Esquire Middle East's Matthew Priest. "I remember the game was on the line, and that play needed to happen. It became an iconic moment in Knicks Basketball, and I even have a big painting of it in my house."

Starks will always remember his iconic moment, and the painting adds another layer to the rivalry, but when it comes to how the series ended, perhaps the Knicks star would rather forget it.

The dunk clinched the Game 2 victory over the Bulls, putting Starks' Knicks up 2-0 in the series. Jordan and the Bulls would storm back to win the next four consecutive games and advance to the NBA Finals. Jordan would then take down the Phoenix Suns in the Finals that year, earning his third consecutive championship.
