Ever since the disappointing end to Conor McGregor’s UFC 329 main event against Max Holloway a few weeks ago, the one question on everybody’s mind is will McGregor retire or fight again?

The 38-year-old Irishman seemingly answered that question, posting on social media he intended to rehab his injured knee and honor the final fight on his UFC contract.

But after revealing he tore his ACL against Holloway, there’s no clear timeline for McGregor’s return. However, UFC president Dana White seems to believe the star will be sidelined for quite a while.

“I have no idea,” White said of if McGregor could be ahead of schedule in his recovery after posting a video of himself doing leg extensions recently. “We had him on FaceTime tonight, ringside, but you know, Conor McGregor’s out for a year.”

If McGregor is, indeed, out for a year, that would put him back in the cage sometime next summer. That timeline seems to be about right too based on what McGregor posted on his social media on Monday.

“What was to be a generational beating is now to be reset. IFW 2027 The Last Dance,” McGregor posted on Instagram along with a video showing him warming up before his UFC 329 fight against Holloway.

International Fight Week is typically the first or second week in July, meaning McGregor would presumably get back into a fight camp sometime around May.

The former two-division champion has already made it known when he returns he wants another crack at Holloway.

The two fighters have fought twice previously (each fighter has a win over the other), and the third fight would give the winner eternal bragging rights.

Conversely, Holloway seems poised for a title fight while he waits for McGregor to heal up. The 34-year-old Hawaiian boasts a knockout win over current lightweight champion Justin Gaethje April of 2024, and he could be in line for the next shot at the 155-pound champion.
