The New York Yankees have been no strangers to harsh injuries this year.
The team lost franchise ace Gerrit Cole for the season before opening day, and reigning Rookie of the Year Award winner Luis Gil and veteran slugger Giancarlo Stanton made postponed debuts after their own spring training setbacks.
The team has also lost captain Aaron Judge, starter Clarke Schmidt, infielder Oswaldo Cabrera and several other key players to injuries of varying degrees at different points this season. And now, the latest injury update for a Yankees veteran could mark the end of his time with the team.

In his eighth career season with the organization, reliever Jonathan Loaisiga has "probably" suffered a flexor strain, manager Aaron Boone said, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. The team is seeking a second opinion, but if that likelihood turns into a reality, it could be a brutal turn for the pitcher.

"If Loaisiga, who had his 2025 campaign delayed after undergoing elbow surgery last year, does have a flexor strain, it would likely end his season," Phillips added. "A season-ending injury could also end Loaisiga's tenure with the Yankees."
When he's healthy, Loaisiga has provided a high-octane option for the backend of the Yankees bullpen. Across his big-league career, he has maintained a 3.54 ERA in almost 250 total innings.
But since he logged a relatively healthy campaign three years ago, he has only appeared in 50 games due to various ailments.
And after re-signing Loaisiga this past winter, the Yankees face a $5 million club option on him for next season and seem unlikely to exercise it given his injury history and shaky performance this year. If he's unable to pitch again in pinstripes this season, he will probably be in search of a new home going forward.
