The New York Yankees will be a fascinating team to watch during this offseason.

After another disappointing postseason, the Yankees are likely to be aggressive in free agency. It would not be surprising if New York added another star reliever to their roster. This is especially the case if they are unable to re-sign pending free agent closer David Bednar.

Due to this, New York is now being connected to one of baseball's top pending free agent relievers.

In a recent article for The Athletic, Jim Bowden named the Yankees as a top free agency fit for San Diego Padres star reliever Adrian Morejon.

Morejon would be a major pickup for the Yankees if signed. The 5-foot-11 lefty has emerged as a star relief pitcher and has been very effective for multiple seasons. Thus, it would make sense for New York to pursue him even if they manage to re-sign Bednar.

Morejon was excellent in a setup role for the Padres this season. In 76 games, he posted a 9-3 record, a 2.83 ERA, and 107 strikeouts. He has also had an ERA under 3.00 in each of his last three seasons. With this, he is simply very dependable and the kind of pitcher that a contender like the Yankees should try to sign.

It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can win the sweepstakes for Morejon this offseason. There is no question that they will have a lot of competition to land him.
