The Toronto Blue Jays failed to sign superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a contract extension before the offseason deadline. Now, the Blue Jays star is going to enter free agency as the top talent on the market.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently predicted Guerrero would be worth north of $600 million in free agency. This would be a huge jump from the previous projections, all of which are right around the $427 million mark projected by Spotrac.

Obviously, $600 million is a very steep number to predict. To begin last off-season, it was only rumored that Juan Soto would land a deal in the $500 million range. This would eventually trend upward until an all-out bidding war took the final number to nearly $800 million.

With Soto landing $765 million, it's important to understand the market has been completely reset for these superstar free agents who are hitting the market before their prime.

With the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and the Blue Jays all expected to be in pursuit, Guerrero's market couldn't get any better. These are all teams who were reportedly willing to offer Soto a deal worth north of $700 million.

A year later, any one of these teams could make Guerrero a $600 million man.

Honestly, I imagine Guerrero will land a deal worth over half a billion dollars, but I don't foresee it being north of $600 million.
