The Boston Red Sox will be without at least one of their top starting pitchers to start the season.
While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, manager Alex Cora revealed that Brayan Bello will begin the season on the 15-day injured list. Bello, who's been nursing a right-elbow injury since the start of spring training, still is expected to be ready sometime in April.
Cora didn't say whether right-hander Kutter Crawford also will begin the season on the injured list. However, Crawford's been sidelined all spring due to a lingering knee soreness and likely won't be ready for opening day.

Cora said Crawford was feeling better but still hasn't started baseball activities, per Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.

With Bello and Crawford both out of the picture, the Red Sox have three starters competing for the fifth spot in the rotation.
Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler, Tanner Houck and Lucas Giolito all are locks, although Giolito still has much to prove after missing all of last season due to an elbow injury. The fifth spot probably will be filled by Richard Fitts, Quinn Priester or Cooper Criswell, with Priester perhaps the likeliest option.
If and when Bello and Crawford are ready to return, the Red Sox will have some interesting decisions to make, including whether to try a six-man rotation.
