The Boston Red Sox have made a few significant moves this offseason, all trades, bringing in starters Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo from the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates, respectively. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow then went back to the Cardinals to make a deal for first baseman Wilson Contreras.

But Boston has not signed a single free agent, and the roster still feels incomplete. That's why baseball analyst Griffey "G.G." Geiss of PitcherList on Wednesday took to his social media account to declare that "three moves can end the Red Sox offseason." The most spectacular of those three moves: a major trade sending outfielder Jarren Duran to the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Red Sox so far this offseason have lost every left-handed reliever in their bullpen, except for closer Aroldis Chapman. According to a report by Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo of MassLive on Wednesday, Boston is actively shopping for southpaw bullpen arms. The trade proposed by Geiss would solve that problem, at least in large part, by bringing in one of the Dodgers bullpen heroes from the World Series.

That pitcher, Geiss proposes, would be 25-year-old Justin Wrobleski, who pitched five innings over four appearances in the World Series without allowing a run. He struck out six and walked no one.

But Geiss also proposes adding the Dodgers' rookie backup catcher, Dalton Rushing, to the deal for Duran. In 2024, Rushing — the Dodgers' second-round draft pick in 2022 out of Louisville — was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 1 prospect in the Dodgers' system and No. 75 in baseball overall.

Why would the Dodgers do it? For one simple reason. Duran, who appears to have become a spare part in the Red Sox outfield with the rise of former No. 1 prospect Roman Anthony, would be a significant upgrade over any outfielder the Dodgers have.

Duran's 4.7 bWAR in 2025 was more than all three starting Dodgers outfielders combined. Michael Conforto, Andy Pages and Teoscar Hernandez totaled 4.6 bWAR among them. For that matter, Duran's total bWAR over the past two seasons, 13.4, comes in only 2.4 behind Dodgers future Hall of Famer Shohei Ohtani.
