The Philadelphia Phillies lost multiple players to the open market after the season ended. Many minor league players elected free agency, including Rodolfo Castro.

Castro elected free agency on Nov. 6, according to his transaction log on MLB.com. Castro was acquired by the Phillies in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023. Castro played 14 games for the Phillies that season. Castro started the next season in Triple-A, but dealt with injuries the entire year. He was placed on the 60-day injured list twice and elected free agency from the Phillies after the season.

The Phillies brought him back as a non-roster invitee to spring training. He spent the entire season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He played in 133 games for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He hit 19 home runs, collected 82 RBIs and posted a .745 OPS. Even though it was not in the big leagues, it was one of the better seasons he has put together as a professional.

Castro is a versatile defender, and the Phillies never had any reason to call him up last season. His best chance to be called up was when Trea Turner was injured, but the team decided to keep him in Triple-A.

He made his debut with the Pirates in 2021 and has played in 194 big league games. Teams could show interest in signing him as he is still only 26 years old and already has some big league experience. He put together a decent season and could be viewed as a depth piece by some teams.
