The red-hot New York Yankees finally dropped their first game of the season. Seattle Mariners star Cal Raleigh drove in the winning run to seal a 2-1 win.

However, it wasn't all bad news for Aaron Boone's team. As reported by Yankees insider Bryan Hoch, it might be just a matter of time before they get SPs Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon back. Moreover, Anthony Volpe is inching closer to taking live at-bats as he works his way back from shoulder surgery:

"Yankees injury updates: Carlos Rodon threw 50 pitches in live BP yesterday. Gerrit Cole is scheduled to toss one 'up' of live BP in a couple of days. Anthony Volpe has been hitting off the Trajekt machine and will advance to live at-bats soon," Hoch shared on his X account.

The Yankees have fared just fine in Volpe's absence, but Boone refuses to give up hope on the once-highly-touted prospect. In the meantime, Jose Caballero has handled things nicely on defense, although he doesn't provide the same upside at the plate as Volpe.

If there are no setbacks in his live batting practice on Wednesday, the Yankees will designate him for a rehab assignment soon, and he should be back with the team in no time.

Volpe had an underwhelming third season in The Show, posting a .212/.22/.391 slash line with 19 home runs, 72 RBI, 18 stolen bases, 43 walks, and 150 strikeouts across 596 plate appearances. That said, he played most of the season through a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder, and that may have taken a toll on his production.

Once considered to be Derek Jeter's heir at shortstop, Volpe will now be under a ton of pressure to deliver and prove that he just needed some time and patience to live up to the sky-high expectations.
