Alonso hit .272 with an .871 OPS. He hit 38 home runs and was better than last season in nearly every offensive metric. After seven years in a Mets uniform, his time in Queens could be over. President of baseball operations David Stearns spoke on his thoughts on Alonso and his free agency.

"Pete is a great Met. He had a fantastic year," Stearns said in a clip posted to X by SNY. "I said this last year and it worked out, but I'd love to have Pete back and we'll see where the offseason goes."
Alonso is one of the best free agents on this year's market. He has proven he can continue to dominate at the plate. He also appeared in 162 games for the second consecutive season.
The Mets were consistent in their desire to keep Alonso last offseason, but were clearly unwilling to give him a long-term deal. It will be interesting to see if that has changed after another All-Star campaign, albeit one that did not extend into October.
