The San Francisco Giants have been left chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West for the last few years, and they've continued to fall short. Under their new president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, they've increased their aggressiveness.

This is both a good and a bad thing. The good news is they've landed players like Rafael Devers in massive trades over the last few months. But the bad news is the Giants have been left with a depleted pitching staff because of it.

Veteran righty Justin Verlander didn't come into the season with huge expectations surrounding him, but he's been excellent down the stretch as the Giants push for a postseason spot. But Verlander's contract runs out at the end of the season.

Could the Giants reunite with the veteran?

"Yeah, definitely," Posey said when asked whether his team would have interest in a reunion with Verlander. "It's something we'll have to discuss, but [we do] for a multitude of reasons. He's been a great teammate. He's helped some of our younger guys learn how to prepare, and he just sets an example by going out and performing, continuing to show up. So yeah, it's definitely something we'd be open to."

A few months ago, this wouldn't have made much sense at all. But Verlander has been solid down the stretch, and he's seemingly looking to play another year.

The Giants traded some pitching to acquire Devers, so reuniting with Verlander would be a sensible option heading into next season. This would make even more sense if the Giants could bring him in for less than the $15 million deal he's signed to this year.
