ESPN laid off several on-air talents this week, including Karl Ravech, David Lloyd, Ryan Clark, Cam Newton, and Stephania Bell. NFL Network analyst Charles Davis and insider Tom Pelissero were also laid off. ESPN acquired NFL Network in January, and the two entities officially merged in April.

Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright particularly hated to see the news of Ravech's exit.

"The news about @ESPN firing Ravvy shocked me," the World Series champion posted on X. "A huge part of my baseball loving life has been watching @karlravechespn on 'Baseball Tonight' and 'Sunday Night Baseball' broadcasts. One of the voices synonymous with baseball to me. Sad day. No doubt he will land smooth somewhere. Good luck my friend."

The Athletic's Andrew Marchand broke the news on Tuesday morning, July 21. Ravech addressed it in the opening minutes of his "Dirt From the Dugout" podcast later that day.

"There’s a lot going on with ESPN," Ravech said. "We’re well aware of it. We're not going to discuss that tonight. This is all about the parents' dugout. It's all about 'Dirt From the Dugout.' It's all about trying to help parents, which is ultimately our goal here, and young players on their journeys."

Wainwright later appeared as Ravech's guest for the episode.

Ravech joined ESPN in 1993 and was one of the most recognizable faces and voices at the network for decades. He hosted "SportsCenter" and "Baseball Tonight" and, perhaps most notably, the voice of "Sunday Night Baseball."

While ESPN opted out of "Sunday Night Baseball" after last season, Ravech continued as ESPN's lead MLB play-by-play voice. He called the Philadelphia Phillies win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on ESPN on Monday night.
