The New York Yankees were the last MLB team to win three consecutive World Series championships. The Los Angeles Dodgers are attempting to do so again in 2026, after winning back-to-back titles the last two years.
Derek Jeter captained those Yankees teams en route to a Hall of Fame career. Now an analyst for Fox, Jeter revealed his thoughts about how the Dodgers compare to his Yankees teams — starting with one man.

"I think there are a lot of similarities and I think, you know, with the Dodgers it starts with Dave Roberts," Jeter said in an appearance on Adam Schein’s show on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio on July 14. "I mean, he's as good as they get as a manager."

...
Jeter isn't being hyperbolic. Roberts' .622 career winning percentage over 11 seasons in Los Angeles is the best by any American League or National League manager in history.
Beyond the wins and losses, Jeter said Roberts has won overwhelming praise from the players he's managed.

"Every player you talk to, they love Dave Roberts," Jeter said. "I've gotten to know Dave over the years, obviously played against him, didn't know him well, but in the last few years it seems like he's a member of the Fox desk because we're always interviewing him because he keeps winning, man. But it starts with him. He instills trust."
Joe Torre managed the Yankees to four championships in his first five seasons in the Bronx. Roberts didn't win his first championship with the Dodgers until his sixth season on the job, but his teams have won three of the last six World Series.

Coincidentally, the Dodgers hired Torre to his last stop on the way to a Hall of Fame managerial career. He managed the Dodgers to their last losing season (80-82) in 2010 before retiring.
That Dodgers team had a threadbare roster, a symptom of the waning years of Frank McCourt's penurious tenure as owner. Roberts inherited a star-laden juggernaut like the kind Torre found in New York, and handled his personnel accordingly — a fact that was not lost on Jeter.
"He's very similar to (Torre)," Jeter said of Roberts. "He instills trust in all of his players.”
