Before the season began, it was widely expected that the Miami Marlins would be selling one key piece at the trade deadline. That piece was former Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara.

After a slow start to what was supposed to be a promising career, Cabrera is having his best season since making his MLB debut in 2021.
He's made 57 starts and counting over the last 2 1/2 season after making just 21 in the first two seasons of his career.
This season, Cabrera is 3-3 with a 3.33 ERA and 80 strikeouts across 15 starts and 78 1/3 innings pitched. His success has made him much more of a trade target than his teammate that was supposed to be one of the most coveted targets prior to the deadline.
It is no surprise to hear that Chicago is interested in the Marlins right-hander, as it has been said by team president Jed Hoyer that the club would be looking to add pitching depth prior to the deadline.
Even more so, after the injury to starter Jameson Taillon, the Cubs will certainly be looking to add at least one if not two starting pitchers.
Cabrera is under team control through his age 30 season in 2028, meaning it will take a bit of a haul to acquire him from Miami.
With the No. 15 ranked minor league system in baseball, Chicago should have the pieces to acquire the young right-hander from Miami.
