The Chicago Cubs need to improve their pitching rotation this offseason if they hope to have better results in 2027.
Due to this, the Cubs are now being linked to a two-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher, with the MLB offseason just getting started.
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer urged the Cubs to acquire star pitcher Jacob deGrom and cash from the Texas Rangers in exchange for pitcher Justin Steele and prospect catcher Owen Ayers.

DeGrom would be a very interesting pitcher for the Cubs to add to their roster. He would have the potential to strengthen their starting rotation nicely if he regained his top form in Chicago.
The five-time All-Star had a down year with the Rangers in 2026, as he posted an 11-11 record and a 4.20 ERA in 31 starts. However, when noting that he had a 12-8 record and a 2.97 ERA with Texas just back in 2025, he could very well turn things around next year. Thus, it would make sense if the Cubs were willing to take a gamble on deGrom, given their pitching struggles.
Before this campaign, deGrom also had an ERA under 4.00 in each of his previous 12 MLB seasons. Thus, a bounce-back season could be on the way for the veteran pitcher. It will be intriguing to see if the Cubs target him because of it from here.
