Country singer Ingrid Andress, whose botched rendition of the National Anthem on Monday stole as many headlines as the Home Run Derby that followed, released a statement on her social media account claiming she was drunk.

Andress wrote on her Twitter/X account:

"I'm not gonna bullshit y'all, I was drunk last night," Andress wrote. "I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I'll let y'all know how rehab is I hear it's super fun. xo, Ingrid"
Andress' rendition of the anthem was not just out of tune — it was out of step with expectations for a four-time Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter.

Major League Baseball announced Andress as part of its celebrity entertainment lineup for the annual Derby, which Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández won in a thrilling finish over Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

Saturday Night Live's Marcello Hernández introduced the Home Run Derby participants. Boxing announcer Michael Buffer introduced the two finalists before the last round. DJ Irie provided the soundtrack during the event.
While the Derby participants tried their best to maintain a straight face during Andress' performance, a number of ex-major leaguers did not hide their disdain for her Anthem on social media:
Andress has alluded to her drinking habit in the past. In one popular clip posted to her TikTok account, Andress depicts herself ostensibly hung over, lying on a couch, while the lyrics to her song "How Honest Do You Want Me To Be?" play in the background: I've been drinking too much / Been drinking too much.
Andress has also previously released a song, "Wishful Drinking," a duet with Sam Hunt, which describes the singers drinking alcohol to wash away heartbreak.
In advance of the single release, she did an interview with KSKS, in which she said, "I feel like we've all been there when we're trying to get over an ex and we're at a bar and we think that the more we drink, the more we're going to get over this person and it ends up being the opposite."
Perhaps the lyrics describing her relationship with alcohol were part of her appeal. In yet another case of hindsight being 20-20, perhaps they were a warning sign.
