The Toronto Blue Jays signed Kazuma Okamoto to a four-year, $60 million deal recently, and The Athletic's Mitch Bannon noted that the move makes it "increasingly unlikely" the Blue Jays re-sign Bichette.
The Blue Jays have reportedly not shut the door on signing Bichette. However, given that Okamoto can play third base, signing Bichette now may create a logjam, so it may no longer be a priority for the Blue Jays. That's not to say that they would not sign him for the right price. However, a different contender may be willing to pay more.
While assessing his market and other suitors, the New York Post's Jon Heyman mentioned the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies are reportedly looking to shake things up, and adding Bichette would do just that.

"Bichette has a great relationship from Toronto with new Phillies bench coach Don Mattingly," Heyman noted on Thursday. "The super focused, win-first Phillies would need to move 3B Alec Bohm, then use Bichette either at (third base) or (second base) (and move Bryson Stott to third base). Phillies players were texting Bichette about the possibility last weekend, when Bichette was celebrating his wedding."
Heyman originally noted the Phillies' interest in Bichette on Saturday. However, news of the Phillies players trying to get him to sign with the Phillies is an interesting note. The Phillies have plenty of stars, and Bichette would fit right into their quest to win a World Series.
As for Bohm, he has been mentioned in trade rumors since last offseason. He is now one season away from free agency, and the Phillies could try to maximize his value. He was an All-Star in 2024, but his OPS dropped 38 points from 2024 to last season. He is still a solid player, but has had some notable decline.
After tallying 61 extra-base hits in 2024, Bohn had just 32 last season. Bichette is one of the best hitters in baseball. He uses all fields well and does not strike out a ton. His defense is a major question mark, but the Phillies would not have him playing shortstop.
