The Toronto Blue Jays have been having a disappointing 2026 season, and it's only been getting worse.
The Blue Jays have lost each of their last four games and have a 1-7 record over their last eight games. With this, the Blue Jays currently sport a 46-56 record, and their playoff odds are continuing to decrease.
Now, with the Blue Jays struggling, they are bringing in a new outfielder to improve their depth.

The Blue Jays have announced that they have claimed outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. In addition, Toronto shared that Martin Jr. has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, while Addison Barger has been moved to the 60-day injured list.

With this waiver claim, the Blue Jays are adding a speedy outfielder who is still looking to make his major league debut to their system. Although Martin Jr. has not made his first MLB appearance yet, he is knocking on the door to change that.
Martin Jr. has had a solid year in the minors this season. In 64 games split between Double-A and Triple-A in 2026, he has eight home runs, 29 RBI, 33 stolen bases, and a .284 batting average. With numbers like these, he has made an impact with both his speed and hitting this campaign. Thus, it makes sense that the struggling Blue Jays have decided to claim him off waivers.
It will now be interesting to see how much of an impact Martin Jr. can make with Triple-A Buffalo from here. If he impresses, he could very well get a call-up to Toronto's roster before the season is over.
