The Houston Astros were dealt a blow Wednesday when one of their outfielders hit the center-field wall hard during their game in Detroit, then tried but failed to walk off the field on his own power.
Taylor Trammell was trying to catch a fly ball off the bat of Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler in the first inning at Comerica Park. Adding insult to injury, he was hurt in the process of missing the baseball.

Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reported that Trammell was being evaluated for a possible concussion, but will accompany the team on its forthcoming road trip to Baltimore.
Dingler was credited with a triple on the play, part of a six-run first inning for the Tigers.
Trammell, 27, went airborne on the warning track as the ball sailed just above his glove. His momentum carried him directly into the wall as his left foot planted in the dirt.

Although Trammell extended his arms to brace his fall, his weight appeared to give out from beneath him as he slid to the dirt at the base of the wall. McTaggart noted that Trammell's neck was also stiff after the game.

Trammell was able to rise to his feet, but the injury prevented him from walking very far. He was replaced in center field by Jacob Melton.
The Tigers scored six runs in the inning.

Trammell was playing his 40th game with the Astros in this, his fifth major league season. He's hitting .211/.315/.358 in 111 plate appearances.
In 166 career games before Tuesday, Trammell has a .177 batting average to go with 18 home runs, 50 RBIs, and six stolen bases with the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees.

Trammell split the 2024 season between the Dodgers (five games) and Yankees (five games), earning rings from both World Series participants despite not participating in the postseason with either team. He was traded to the Astros in November 2024.
"It's obviously cool that I got to be a part of those teams and with L.A. being able to get a ring with those guys is awesome, but in the grand scheme of things I'm a competitor," Trammell told MLB.com in January. "I want to be there. I don't think anybody really wants a participation trophy or anything like that."
With the Astros, Trammell has had an action-packed — and painful — 24 hours.
In the ninth inning of Tuesday night's game, Trammell made an incredible catch in foul territory after a long run in from left field.
That catch unfortunately, also saw Trammell make a hard landing on his back.
Now, he could be facing a lengthy recovery period from his latest escapade in the Detroit outfield.
