The Athletics' haven't had any shortage of injuries this season, and just suffered another huge blow with starter J.T. Ginn landing on the injured list.
Ginn last pitched against the Washington Nationals on July 18, hurling 6.1 no-hit innings before allowing his first knock and exiting the game. He has been a pleasant surprise in the rotation following a couple of middling years in MLB, posting a 3.46 ERA through 22 appearances this year.
Despite his solid showing in his last performance, Ginn clearly suffered some discomfort, often pictured looking at his throwing hand in the dugout during the bottom half of the inning. Prior to their game Wednesday, the A's announced Ginn moved to the injured list with a right middle finger blister.

The A's now have a season-high 11 players on the injured list, but manager Mark Kotsay recognizes this injury hurts the team a little more than some of the others.
“To lose our guy that has thrown the ball the best this season, it was a difficult decision,” Kotsay said. “The blister has made some progress. But at this point, it wasn’t enough to say that he’s going to be ready, even if we pushed him back. We’re looking at the rest of the season. If we brought him back quickly and it reopens, it’s a longer timeframe. Unfortunate to not have him in the rotation, because he was the guy who was leading it.”
The A's' rotation is already struggling, as they're also without former All-Star Luis Severino for the time being. Results for the A's are bound to get worse, as they have the single worst pitching staff in the American League by ERA — and that's with Ginn's brilliance.

Who Else is on Athletics' the Injured List?
Ginn isn't even the most impactful player to land on the injured list for the A's, as 2025's AL Rookie of the Year and All-Star first baseman Nick Kurtz has missed the last couple of weeks while dealing with a right thumb capsule strain.
Additionally, the A's are without Zack Gelof, who put together a solid season following a couple of mediocre, injury-riddled seasons, Brent Rooker, who will miss the remainder of the year, and No. 8 prospect Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, who batted over .400 through 15 games before rupturing a testicle on Tuesday.
Ginn's injury leaves yet another hole for the A's to plug, as they try to salvage their season despite a long list of injuries. Their next opportunity to turn things around during what has been a disappointing month of July comes on the road against the Minnesota Twins. The first game of their series in the Twin Cities comes Friday at 5:10 p.m. PT.
