Pittsburgh picked up a solid victory in the debut of coach Dan Muse on Tuesday night, blanking the New York Rangers 3-0 at Madison Square Garden. Goalie Arturs Silovs, acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in July, stopped all 25 shots he faced for his first career shutout while free-agent addition Justin Brazeau scored two goals, including the go-ahead marker at 19:28 of the first period, before adding a late empty-netter.
The Islanders open the season without backup goalie Semyon Varlamov (knee). They will also be without defenseman Ethan Bear (undisclosed), while forwards Pierre Engvall (hip) and Calum Ritchie (lower body) were placed on the injured reserve non-roster list on Monday. New York slogged through a 35-35-12 season in 2024-25, during which it was never far from the playoff picture but never really in it either. No. 1 overall pick Matthew Schaefer, a defenseman who turned 18 last month, is slated to make his NHL debut against the Penguins.
This is a great NHL matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
