A year ago, Peter Malnati started the season on an up-and-down note, missing four cuts in his first seven tournaments. However, he was able to turn that losing streak around and win in his eighth start, the 2024 Valspar Championship.
A year later, the situation is almost a carbon copy, as Malnati has played in eight events this season, made just three cuts and posted just one top-50 finish (T49 at the Phoenix Open).
Speaking at a press conference prior to the start of the 2025 Valspar Championship, Malnati said that what he did a year ago was a great moment in his career, but it did not help him improve his overall game.

"I've been in this rut and I was kind of approaching that definition of insanity where I was working really hard, I figured the stuff that I did to help me win must be the right stuff, so I just did it over and over and over and over and over again. And I was just -- but I wasn't getting any results."

...
However, the 37-year-old has not given up on raising his game and revealed that he is currently adding new elements that he is very excited about.
"So my form hasn't been too good, but I'm really excited right now. About three weeks ago I started working with a new instructor, getting some new information going into my system to kind of -- because I love to work, I've always worked hard, that's not been the issue."
"Maybe haven't had quite the right stuff going in. So now I have some new stuff, some different thoughts, some different feelings. It feels like right now I have that feeling that the sky's the limit."
The 2024 season did not turn out the way Peter Malnati might have hoped after winning his second career PGA Tour title nine years after his first. Malnati finished the year with more missed cuts (15) than made cuts (14) and only one top-10 finish added to his win.
His title at the Valspar Championship gave Malnati the FedEx Cup points needed to qualify for the first playoff event (FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship), but he was unable to advance beyond that and thus did not qualify directly for the 2025 Signature Events.
It did qualify him for the remaining three Signature Events of 2024, but he couldn't make much use of it. He finished T49 at the RBC Heritage, T66 at the Wells Fargo Championship, T33 at the Memorial and T70 at the Travelers Championship.
Another door that opened with the win at Innisbrook Resort that Malnati was unable to take advantage of was the major championships. He qualified for the Masters, the US Open and the PGA Championship, but missed the cut in all three.
