Not many patrons lining the course at Shinnecock Golf Club wanted Wyndham Clark to win the U.S. Open for a second time.
Most of the fanbase was rooting for Scottie Scheffler to complete the career grand slam, but a few were actively rooting against Clark, cheering when he hit a bad show. He noted after the round that the crowd was against him – just like it would be for a Ryder Cup on foreign soil.

While he had detractors, Clark also had the support of girlfriend Emily Tanner. The couple went public earlier this year at the Masters, where the golf star finished in a tie for 21st place.
After Clark managed to win his second U.S. Open, Tanner took to social media with a message for her new boyfriend.
"My Wynerrrrr!!!" she said in the message on her Instagram story with a photo of the golf star holding the U.S. Open trophy.
Clark finished with a one-shot victory over Sam Burns.
