It’s clear by what happened on Friday that the Indiana Fever aren’t going to accept another first-round playoff exit next season.

The Fever, built around stars Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, have one of the best rosters in the WNBA, but that hasn’t translated into much postseason success.

There’s serious questions about whether the team will re-sign star guard Kelsey Mitchell, who finished second in the league in scoring this season (24.7 points per game), and Indiana has come under fire recently for the way some of its fans have treated several of the top players in the WNBA.

That last part may have played a factor into a major front-office shakeup that happened on Friday when team president Kelly Krauskopf resigned. Indiana made three WNBA Finals appearances and won one WNBA championship during her tenure.

“Kelly Krauskopf will step down as team president, closing an extraordinary chapter in a career of nearly three decades with PS&E in which she built the Fever from its founding, delivered the franchise’s first WNBA championship, and helped open doors for women across professional basketball,” the Fever announced.

Krauskopf has had quite the distinguished WNBA career. But with the number of opposing players claiming they fear for their safety and security when visiting Gainbridge Fieldhouse seemingly growing by the day, it may have been the right time for Krauskopf to step away.

The Fever are clearly entering a new era, and many analysts have stated in order for the Fever to entice premier free agents to want to play with Clark and Boston, change was needed.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to help build and steward the Indiana Fever with the support and trust of Herb Simon,” Krauskopf said in a release. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and shared accomplishments that have shaped my time with this organization.

“The Fever is poised for an exciting future, and I am proud to have helped lay the foundation for its continued growth and success. I will always cherish my time with Pacers Sports and Entertainment and the people who made it so meaningful.”
