The WNBA's historic 2026 season ended with a championship celebration for the Golden State Valkyries, but the league's biggest victory may have come in the television ratings.
Game 7 of the WNBA Finals between the Valkyries and Atlanta Dream drew more than 3.3 million viewers across USA Network, CNBC and Peacock, according to preliminary Nielsen and Adobe Analytics data reported Tuesday by Front Office Sports.
If the numbers hold, the deciding game will become the most-watched WNBA regular-season or postseason contest since the league's inaugural season in 1997.

The audience would also establish a new postseason record, surpassing the 3.25 million viewers who watched the Houston Comets defeat the New York Liberty in Game 3 of the 1999 WNBA Finals.
Saturday's winner-take-all matchup delivered an exciting conclusion to the first best-of-seven championship series in league history.
Golden State defeated Atlanta 68-63 at Chase Center, capturing its first WNBA championship in just its second season.
Gabby Williams led the Valkyries with 30 points, including 28 in the second half, and earned Finals MVP honors.
The historic audience was not the only impressive television milestone from the series.
According to Front Office Sports, the seven-game Finals averaged approximately 1.89 million viewers, making it the most-watched WNBA Finals series in league history.
That figure surpassed the previous record of 1.5 million viewers established during the 2024 championship series between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx.
The ratings were particularly noteworthy considering the scheduling challenges surrounding the Finals.
Game 6 was moved to a 12:30 p.m. ET start on a Thursday because of arena scheduling complications in Atlanta. Despite the unusual time slot, the contest still attracted approximately 1.5 million viewers.
Game 1 drew 2.1 million viewers, while Game 4 attracted another 1.9 million, demonstrating sustained interest throughout the championship series.
The numbers also highlight the WNBA's expanding television audience as the league continues to build momentum.

The 2026 Finals also marked a new chapter in the WNBA's television partnerships, with NBC, USA Network and Peacock bringing the championship series to audiences across multiple platforms.
Golden State walked away with its first championship, but the impact of the seven-game series extended well beyond the court.
The record-setting viewership highlighted the growing demand for women's professional basketball and the league's ability to attract a national audience on its biggest stage.
With millions watching the Valkyries capture their first title, the WNBA closed its season with more than a new champion. It delivered another powerful example of how far the league has come and the opportunity that lies ahead.
