The New Jersey Devils made a massive move last week when they acquired star goalie Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets.

Now, the Devils are staying busy, as they have traded one of their young goalies.

The Devils have announced that they have traded goalie Remi Poirier to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick.

Remi Poirier

...

Poirier was claimed off waivers by the Devils from the Dallas Stars in late September. Now, after spending over a month with the Devils, he is heading to DC.

While Poirier was on the Devils' roster, he did not make an appearance for them this season before the trade. He has also yet to make his NHL debut but will be looking to change that after being traded to the Capitals.

Poirier has had plenty of success in the AHL, so it makes sense that the Capitals are taking a chance on him. In 52 AHL games last season with the Texas Stars, he posted a 27-19-6 record, a .912 save percentage, and a 2.61 goals-against average. He also has a .908 save percentage in 137 career AHL games.

While Poirier has shown promise in the AHL, it makes sense that the Devils have moved him. They simply did not have room for him on their roster after acquiring Hellebuyck.
