As the Chicago Blackhawks prepare for the start of training camp, they have made a major announcement regarding Connor Bedard.

On Tuesday, the Blackhawks announced that they have named Connor Bedard as the 37th captain in their franchise history.

Seeing the Blackhawks name Bedard as their new captain is not surprising in the slightest. He is clearly the young superstar that they are building around, so it only makes sense that he will now be their captain.

Bedard will be taking over the captaincy from Nick Foligno, who was traded to the Minnesota Wild by the Blackhawks at the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline.

Bedard being named the Blackhawks' captain comes after he signed a five-year, $75 million contract extension with the Original Six club earlier this summer.

Now, Bedard will be the Blackhawks' leader as they look to take that next step in their rebuild and become competitive again. They certainly have the potential to be better in 2026-27, as they brought in Patrick Kane, Bowen Byram, Jordan Greenway, Ian Cole, and Cole Smith this offseason.

In 219 career NHL games over three seasons, Bedard has posted 75 goals, 128 assists, and 203 points.
