The Chicago Sky shocked the WNBA world on Monday when they traded star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for first-round picks in 2027 and 2028.

After months of speculation about Reese’s future, the Sky actually pulled the trigger on a trade many didn’t believe would actually happen. But it was something Reese seemingly manifested after a disappointing 10-34 finish in head coach Tyler Marsh’s first season as a head coach.

“I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don't pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what's best for me,” Reese said after the season ended.

Adding Reese was a major move for Atlanta, which went 30-14 last season with All-Stars Brittney Griner and Rhyne Howard. But the Dream are already starting to reap the benefits of the Reese acquisition not even 24 hours after the deal was made.

The average ticket price for the Dream’s home opener jumped from $173 to $255, and average ticket prices across the season doubled from $38 to $68.

The Dream have also seen an 18,000 follower rise in their Instagram followers, while the Sky’s Instagram following has dropped by 10,000, according to the Sporting News.

While the Sky were seemingly thrilled to rid themselves of Reese, the Dream were equally as ecstatic to welcome her to the franchise.

“The fans have said it best: nearly 100% positive fan sentiment across every social media, every media outlet,” Dream president and COO Morgan Shaw Parker told WSBTV in Atlanta. “They love her. She absolutely belongs here, and we are so happy to welcome her home.

“Obviously, she’s an LSU grad, but our fans have basically said there could be no better move than to bring her in with this team. She fits in with the Atlanta culture like no other, and she’s got a great core team around her that’s going to be incredible on the court.”
