Back on Feb. 25, the International Skating Union's World Figure Skating Championships announced 11 of the 12 Olympic medalists would be competing at the event in late March – while highlighting the post with United States star and gold medalist Alysa Liu.

"AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING! It’s official — figure skating stars are coming to Prague for the World Championships. A total of 11 out of 12 Olympic medalists are heading to the O2 arena. And that’s truly INCREDIBLE news. There’s definitely something to look forward to," the ISU Figure Skating Championships Prague account said.

Fast forward to March 7 – just over two weeks before the start of the competition – and Liu appears to have changed her mind.

More Olympics: Olympics Urged to Make Major Change After USA, Canada Controversy

The official list of competitors for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships lists Liu as a "substituted" skater. According to the figure skating social media account In The Loop, American Sarah Everhardt will replace Liu in the competition. The 19-year-old American skater is coached by the parents of fellow American star skater Ilia Malinin.

"They were at the rink that I started skating at, so I've known them for forever," Everhardt said of growing up with the phenom. "I switched to them because I thought that they could bring me up to a new level and I love working with them. They get me and they know what works for me and how to train me as an athlete. They want you to work hard and they push you to work hard. They just want you to be the best skater you can be."

While she doesn't appear to be competing at the World Championships later this month, Liu did appear to suggest she'll be skating in 2030 when the Olympics head to the French Alps.

"Yeah, I mean, I like France," she said when asked about defending her gold medal. "So yeah, I would like to."
