Country musician Shaboozey has sent a message of gratitude to the Detroit Lions, after his halftime performance during the NFL team's Thanksgiving game became a viral talking point on social media.

The singer and rapper, whose given name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, won acclaim as he performed at Detroit's Ford Field midway through the Lions' ultimate 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thursday.

Shaboozey, 29, entertained the crowd and viewers at home with a medley of songs that started with "Last of My Kind," a track from his album Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going and features Paul Cauthen and ended with his hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)."

Later sharing a clip of his performance on X, formerly Twitter, Shaboozey added the caption: "So much to be thankful for this year!!! Thank you @lions for having me. And Happy Thanksgiving to everyone watching at home."

Shaboozey first gained attention for his and Duckwrth's 2018 song "Start a Riot," which was on the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

However, 2024 has been something for a banner year for Shaboozey, who collaborated with Beyoncé on two tracks for her country album Cowboy Carter, while his own country single "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" spent 19 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

"A Bar Song (Tipsy)" prominently features a reference to rapper J-Kwon's 2004 hip-hop hit "Tipsy," which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Noting his meteoric rise, Shaboozey added in another X post: "From a 250 capacity venue to an NFL halftime show in one year is insane. What can't God do?"

A host of social media users praised Shaboozey's Thanksgiving show, while some joked that his time on the field was longer than the Bears' possession of the ball.

Ahead of Shaboozy performing, the Lions took a commanding 16-0 lead over the Bears. This was not ignored by sports commentators as Shaboozey sang.

Jonathan Jones, a senior NFL reporter and insider for CBS Sports, quipped on X: "Shaboozey is going to be on the field longer than the Bears offense."

Matt Zahn, a sports reporter and anchor for CBS Chicago, replied to Jones' post: "It was close, but go Bears! Bears 1st half time of [possession]: 7:06. Shaboozey (unofficial) time on field: 6:26."

Meanwhile, a host of viewers shared that they enjoyed Shaboozey's performance.

Brad Galli, sports director at ABC affiliate WXYZ 7 News Detroit, commented: "Shaboozey rocked the halftime show at Ford Field. The Lions scored a great performer and did it big on Thanksgiving."

"This @ShaboozeysJeans Shaboozey Halfitme show is the BEST HALFTIME SHOW that the Lions has ever had!!" read a post from the World Champion Network, an NFL news website.

There has recently been speculation that Shaboozey could be among a host of surprise guests joining Beyoncé when she performs in her hometown of Houston at the second of two NFL games on Christmas Day between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens.
