A Reddit user shared pictures of their cat when he first got home and then six months later, and internet users can’t deal with his insane transformation.
In a post shared on Monday under the username u/Sammy12xyz, the poster shows two pictures of the gray cat, one when he’s just a small regular kitty adjusting to his new home, the other one six months later, with an incredible amount of extra fluff.
“First day home vs yesterday!” reads the caption, “These pictures are six months apart. He’s almost 2 now. He is a healthy weight it’s just floof.”

Most kittens are born with soft, fluffy baby fur, making it difficult to tell coat length early on.

...
However, around eight to 12 weeks, certain features, like a fluffy tail, ear tufts, fur between the toes, and a developing neck ruff, can indicate a longhaired future.
The longhair trait is recessive, so both parents must carry the gene for the kitten to have long hair. If both parents are longhaired, their kittens almost certainly will be too.
As the kitten grows, especially between 3 to 6 months, these indicators become more pronounced, giving you a better indication of your kitty's coat type.
For a definitive answer, genetic testing or professional assessments from a veterinarian can confirm coat type. Understanding this early can help prepare for grooming needs and ensure proper care as the kitten develops into adulthood.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 31,000 upvotes and 399 comments on the platform.
One user, Beerfoodbeer, commented: “I think you have a cat attached to your floofball.”
Tahddah said: “What a beautiful kitty you have! The same thing happened to me! I thought I adopted a medium-haired cat! The hair just kept growing!”
Larry-Man added: “I adopted a cat that looked like a shorthair. He still does. He looks that way. He’s medium hair and I have to shave him in the summer.”
