The Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals have been aggressive on the trade market this winter. The Cardinals traded Sonny Gray to the Red Sox early in the offseason before trading Willson Contreras to Boston a few weeks later.

These two veterans will be very welcome additions to the Red Sox's roster, but they could continue adding before opening day. In fact, the Cardinals and Red Sox might not be done doing business together.

Curt Bishop of St. Louis Cardinals OnSi put together a trade package that would send Brendan Donovan to the Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Brayan Bello and David Sandlin.

"The Red Sox are willing to part with Major League ready talent, evidenced by the trades they’ve already made with St. Louis," Bishop wrote. "The Cardinals landed two Major League ready starters in Richard Fitts and Hunter Dobbins, but they could potentially add somebody more proven in a trade with Boston.

"David Sandlin performed well at Double-A Portland, going 5-4 in 13 starts and four relief appearances before being called up to Triple-A Worcester. He can be used in multiple roles and add pitching depth to the Cardinals system."

The Red Sox could make a move like this if they're going to go after another starting pitcher, like Freddy Peralta or Seth Lugo. If not, trading Bello would be a bit too steep a price to pay for Donovan.

Still, the value in this trade pitch makes sense. Donovan would be a solid utilityman in Boston. He can play the corner outfield spots as well as most of the spots on the infield dirt. Boston would have a spot in the lineup for Donovan every day.
