Why It Matters
Renee Nicole Good, 37, was fatally shot by an ICE officer during a traffic stop in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis on January 7. The incident was captured on video from multiple angles and shared on social media.

...
The Trump administration has said that Renee put the ICE officer’s life in danger by driving toward him, and justified the use of lethal force. This characterization has been disputed by Democrats, who have said that the killing was senseless and unjustified.
What To Know
Both Rebecca and Renee worked for Rebecca’s household repair and maintenance business, B. Good Handywork LLC, according to records from the Missouri Secretary of State previously reviewed by Newsweek.
The business was officially incorporated in 2024. Rebecca and Renee are both listed as company managers.
The couple had only recently moved to Minneapolis, after leaving for Canada following Trump’s re-election.
In a statement given to the Minnesota Star Tribune after Renee’s death, Rebecca said: "Like people have done across place and time, we moved to make a better life for ourselves. We chose Minnesota to make our home. Our whole extended road trip here, we held hands in the car while our son drew all over the windows to pass the time and the miles."
That statement continued: "What we found when we got here was a vibrant and welcoming community, we made friends and spread joy."
The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that a "majority" of the leadership team at Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney’s Office resigned on January 13. The outlet reported that this departure came in response to directives from top officials to staff members following the killing.
One of the reasons cited for the resignations was a directive from the Justice Department that Good’s widow be investigated for possible federal charges.
What People Are Saying
Rebecca Good, in a statement given to the Minnesota Star Tribune following her wife’s death: "Renee lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world and we need to do everything we can to find it where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow. Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole."
President Donald Trump said of the ICE killing of Renee Good: "I have just viewed the clip of the event…It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense."
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told reporters: "Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly: that is bulls***. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying."
What Happens Next?
State and city leaders have repeatedly called for ICE to leave Minneapolis. DHS agents have said that they will continue their operations.
