The viral trend of women seeking men in finance—popularized by a wave of TikTok creators last summer—may not be as dominant as social media suggests.
According to a new survey by Talker Research commissioned by The League, while finance remains a sought-after career in a partner, it's far from the top of the list. The poll, which surveyed 1,000 single men and 1,000 single women, set out to determine the most dateable professions of 2025—and the results might surprise you.

Despite the buzz around finance bros, only 18 percent of women said they were actively looking for a partner with a job in finance, tying it with those seeking an artist to date. In fact, being an entrepreneur ranked higher, with 21 percent of women preferring a partner who runs their own business. The findings suggest that while financial stability is attractive, other factors—like ambition and creativity—are just as, if not more, desirable.
And at the top of the career dating hierarchy? Healthcare workers, at 29 percent.
The Rise and Fall of the 'Man in Finance'
The "man in finance" stereotype gained traction in 2024, thanks to Megan Boni, the creator behind the viral TikTok audio, "I'm looking for a man in finance, with a trust fund. Six-five. Blue eyes."
"Did I just write the song of the summer?" Boni wrote in the caption of her TikTok video in April 2024.
The clip gained nearly 60 million views and inspired countless parodies and remixes online. However, the survey suggests that the reality of dating preferences may not align with the hype.
After healthcare, the most attractive careers for a potential partner were education, emergency response and law. Ambition was another common sentiment among singles considering their dating options. Forty-four percent of respondents said they would prefer someone whose career ambition is the same as their own. A smaller percentage, 34 percent, said they are looking for someone who is even more ambitious.
"Careers in healthcare typically combine aspects of financial security, intelligence, and caregiving—which are all very appealing qualities in a partner," Rachel DeAlto, dating expert at The League, said in a news release. "On top of that, transparency is more attractive than ever. While there may be no perfect time to talk about careers and ambitions, bringing it up in conversation sooner than later in the dating process allows singles to determine if they share similar values and life goals from the start."
While TikTok may have made a man in finance seem like the ultimate goal, the data suggests that when it comes to long-term attraction, stability, ambition and care still reign supreme.
