Each month, PlayStation Plus members can download two free games for their PS4. In June, subscribers to the PlayStation's online service will have access to a shooter with the addictiveness of Diablo and a Sonic the Hedgehog game—one of the good ones. Beginning June 4, PS Plus subscribers can download the post-apocalyptic loot shooter Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and the 2D retro Sonic Mania.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
Borderlands 3 is coming in September, which makes this the perfect time to check out Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which bundles Borderlands 2 and its obnoxiously titled sequel, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The Handsome Collection also includes all of the DLC, which expanded the campaign with entries like "Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty," "Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage" and the highly praised "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep," which is set in a Dungeons & Dragons style world called Bunkers and Badasses.
Borderlands 2 is the best reviewed in the Gearbox loot shooter series, which is known for its post-apocalyptic playfulness and cel-shaded graphics.
Sonic Mania
The other free game coming to the PS Plus subscription service in June is Sonic Mania, which became the best reviewed Sonic the Hedgehog game in more than a decade upon its 2017 release.
Sonic Mania is a 2D sidescroller, similar to Sega Genesis installments of the series. Players can select between Sonic, Knuckles and Tails for Sonic Mania's twelve levels, which are a combination of "remixed" classics and original creations. Sonic Mania combines all the best features of beloved entries like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic CD. Sonic Mania also includes collectibles, hidden areas and multiplayer modes for two players.
If you've ever had any affection for the spotty series, Sonic Mania is a must-play.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Sonic Mania will be available to download for PS Plus subscribers beginning June 4. You can also download the PS Plus games for May—What Remains of Edith Finch and Overcooked!—until June 3.
