Problems with Friendship Levels in "Pokémon Go" not increasing have plagued roll-out of the Social Feature. Find out how to temporarily fix the issue, here.
The new Social Feature is one of the biggest updates yet for Pokémon Go , adding trading capabilities and allowing friends to send gifts and battle alongside each other. However, a new bug is not allowing the Friendship Level to increase between users.
Reports that the Friendship Level is not increasing as intended have spurred Niantic to post about the issue on its official blog.

According to the official Pokémon Go site, Niantic is aware of the issue and is working on a resolution. The company also offered a possible reason for Friendship Levels not increasing:
"We're aware of an issue where Friendship Levels become out of sync between two Friends and progress may not increase once per day as intended. Trainers affected by this issue may complete an activity with their Friend but their Friendship Levels may not increase for one or both Trainers. This issue is more likely to occur if the Friends are in different time zones from one another."
Friendship Levels in Pokémon Go signify how often you interact with users in your Friends List. Completing certain tasks, like sending gifts found in PokeStops, trading and battling in Gyms or Raids together will increase the Friendship Level. Each level of friendship offers different perks, which you can see below.
- Good Friend (One Day) - None
- Great Friend (Seven Days) - + 1 Stardust Discount on Trades, + 1 Gym/Raid Battle Attack Bonus, + 1 Premiere Ball in Raid Battles
- Ultra Friend (30 Days) - +2 Stardust Discount, +2 Gym/Raid Attack Bonus, +2 Premiere Balls
- Best Friend (90 Days) - + 3 Stardust Discount, +3 Gym/Raid Attack Bonus, +4 Premiere Balls
Friendship Level Bug Workaround
The same Pokémon Go site says players can get the Friendship Level to increase by simply performing another task on the same day. For example, if you sent a Gift to a friend and your Friendship Level didn't go from zero to one, send another. Here's what the official Pokémon Go site says to do:
"If you notice that your Friendship Level has not increased for the day after participating in Gym Battles/Raids, trading Pokémon, or sending a Gift to your friend, please complete another one of these activities with them."
