Pokémon Go players are currently experiencing a glitch in the popular mobile game that forces trainers to restart the app.
Trainers have begun to notice that when a Pokémon is fed a Berry on the capture screen, the game freezes. The forced restart means players lose the catch opportunity. Pokémon Go players on The Silph Road subreddit have even begun to voice their displeasure over the game's Berry glitch and the loss of Special Research Tasks.
Niantic has acknowledged the Berry glitch in Pokémon Go and are working on fixing the bug. Here's the statement on the official Pokémon Go blog informing trainers of which versions of the game are being affected.

"We are aware of an issue on Android version 0.111.4 and iOS version 1.81.4 that causes Pokémon GO to become unresponsive when encountering a Pokémon that you have previously fed a Berry to. We are currently working on a fix but in the meantime, you will need to restart the app to continue playing."
To compensate trainers for the current problems, Niantic is extending the date to claim research tasks until Aug. 27.
For the month of August, completing the Special Research Tasks gets you an encounter with the Electric-type Legendary Pokémon Raikou. Raikou was previously only available in a limited time Raid Battle so the current Berry glitch in Pokémon Go comes at a bad time.
Pokémon Go is also preparing for the next Community Day event on Aug. 11 and 12 where trainers will be able to catch Shiny Eevee and Eevee that have the exclusive attack, Last Resort. The next Community Day will also let players gain three times the amount of Stardust from catching and hatching Pokémon, which is the most important resource for trades.
