Pete Davidson has always been a proud New Yorker, but the internet has taken it to a whole new level—all because of an oddly-phrased headline.
The internet is ablaze with romance rumors about Davidson, 27, and Kim Kardashian, 41, after they were photographed holding hands on a rollercoaster at Knott's Scary Farm in California over the weekend.
While the pair have not confirmed they are dating and are said to just be friends, that hasn't stopped people from speculating about a potential spark. Newsweek has contacted representatives of both Kardashian and Davidson for comment.

As a consequence, the SNL star has been trending online for days now, as people highlight his impressive dating history. But the cherry on top for most online commentators was Page Six's Twitter caption on a story about Kardashian's return to the Big Apple, in which they referred to the city as "Pete Davidson's native NYC."

It all started when Page Six posted an article about Kardashian arriving in New York City. However, in order to drop Davidson's name into the caption, they decided to call the city "Pete Davidson's native NYC"—cue the memes.

Twitter user @Lukasbattle called back to New York's history and saw the positive side of Kardashian's arrival in the "small Dutch trading post Pete Davidson is from."
Writer Grant Rindner (@grantrindner) reminded everyone that "Pete Davidson's native NYC" is just the latest in a long line of celebrity cities, including "Fall Out Boy's Chicago."
Actress Rachel Zegler, who's set to star in Stephen Spielberg's West Side Story, jumped on the bandwagon and posted a picture of herself with "NYC mayor" Davidson.
Sarah Schauer (@sarahschauer) satirically pointed out the intention of the Page Six article and headline in a NSFW manner. She wrote: "It's too much of a coincidence, absolutely no one visits NYC without f**king the s**t out of Pete Davidson."
Matt Fred (@itsmattfred) agreed with her sentiment.
Meanwhile, Katherine Fitzgerald (@kfitz134) added a modern twist to the lyrics of Plain White T's classic song "Hey There Delilah."
Leor Galil (@imleor) continued the musical theme, inserting the phrase into Frank Sinatra's classic, "New York, New York."
Writer for The Simpsons, Broti Gupta (BrotiGupta) got over 45,000 likes on her tweet, which referred to New York City as "Pete Davidson's ancestral village."
Already anticipating the impact this exciting turn of events for New York, @bymeg mocked up the new name for one of the city's airports.
Twitter user @MediumSizedMeech saw the aspiration within the phrase and imagined what the world would look like if it really were known as "Pete Davidson's native NYC."
Just to remind everyone of the sequence of events, @capnwatsisname described to everyone what Davidson and Kardashian have actually have done so far.
Chicks in the Office (@ChicksInTheOff) did a fine job of summarizing the internet reaction with their quote tweet of the Page Six article.
They suggested that people do have a habit of jumping to conclusions when it comes to dating rumors.
