For many dog owners, leaving their pet at doggy daycare for the first time can stir a range of emotions—from anxiety to excitement. But for one woman, any nerves quickly faded after receiving a heartwarming update on her dachshund's first day.

On July 18, a Reddit user—who goes by the name u/According-Brain-6415 —shared a screenshot of the glowing report she received about her dog Mika's experience.

The report described Mika's fun-filled day, including making new friends, playing in the sunshine, and taking a refreshing dip in the pool. The post also featured joyful photos of Mika clearly enjoying herself.

The woman, from Katy, Texas, commented on the post: "I love that she gets to socialize—anything for my girl."

Key Aspects of Puppy Care and Socialization

Socialization, exercise, and training are essential for a puppy's healthy development, according to the American Kennel Club. Early exposure to a wide range of experiences helps prevent fear-based behaviors and contributes to the growth of a well-rounded, confident adult dog.

Puppies thrive when they interact with new people, environments, and other dogs. These experiences help them practice important communication cues—such as signaling when they want to play or when they need a break.

Regular exercise is also crucial. Providing structured, safe opportunities for physical activity allows puppies to burn off energy in a healthy way, which can reduce undesirable behaviors at home.

Mika certainly made the most of her day, according to the daycare's report: "She was sweet and social, happily settling in with her group. When the sun was shining, Mika enjoyed running around the field, getting her energy out with playful sprints."

The report continued: "She balanced her time between sun-soaked fun and peaceful lounging with her buddies. It was a great mix of play and rest for Mika today."

How Much Exercise Does a Small Dog Need?

Given Mika's small size, it's no surprise that she may be feeling tired after all the excitement. In a previous interview with Newsweek, veterinarian Dr. Grant Little—who works with the Q&A platform JustAnswer—explained that a dog's walk should be proportionate to its body size and strength.

"A small dog may get more tired quickly on a long walk as they are having to keep up with the owner and run faster," Little said.

He recommends approximately 20 minutes of exercise at a time for small dogs (those under 15 pounds). Pet owners should also consult their veterinarian if they notice signs that their dog is struggling during walks or exercise.
