Multiple videos have gone viral online showing Nicki Minaj’s music being booed, people stopping dancing when her music comes on and people remixing her songs to remove her verses, following her apparent move from a more liberal viewpoint to a conservative one.

Newsweek has reached out to a representative for Minaj outside of normal business hours via email for comment.

Why It Matters

In December of 2025, Minaj was interviewed by Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk and the chairwoman of Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization founded by her late husband.

This appearance has been considered by some to be the completion of an arc that has seen Minaj move to the right in her political views. Minaj spoke out about President Donald Trump back in 2020 and said that she was "not gonna jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon."

His second term in office, though, has been a different story for the Super Bass hitmaker. She appeared at the United Nations in support of the Trump administration in November to speak about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

She has since posted favorable posts on X about both Trump and Vice President JD Vance, both of whom she praised at the Turning Point conference.

This has, in turn, been met with widespread backlash and condemnation from her fan base, particularly her LGBTQ+ fans. A petition was launched on Change.org calling for her deportation back to Trinidad, which as of reporting has over 39,000 signatures. A separate petition, which also calls for her deportation but was set up in July, has garnered 80,000 signatures.

What People Are Saying

Nicki Minaj, asked about the backlash from the entertainment industry by Erika Kirk at the turning Point USA conference: "I didn’t notice."

Tristan Hamilton, the organizer of the petition to deport Nicki Minaj on Change.org: "Sign this petition to urge immigration authorities to review Nicki Minaj's residency status in the United States and consider deporting her back to Trinidad as a response to her harmful rhetoric. Let's stand together to advocate for a community that is inclusive and respectful, leaving no room for abandonment based on outdated ideologies. Every signature counts in making our voices heard and fostering a sphere where public figures can be evaluated on the principles they claim to uphold."
