NBA 2K19 has a totally overhauled MyTeam suite that aims to deliver a steady stream of activities for new and returning players. Everything from modes to Locker Codes was detailed in a lengthy Facebook post Wednesday morning. Here's a bulleted recap of the major details:

Packs

• Packs are tiered and guaranteed to give you a themed reward. In other words, a Throwback pack always has a Throwback player.
• More cards available at a faster rate

Types of Cards

• Heat Check: Cards get a full stat boost for 48 hours after a good real-world game. The bigger the achievement, the bigger the boost.
• Anniversary Collection: Features the best cards in MyTeam history. A new card gets added to the set every few weeks, and the full set contains 18 cards broken into three series. Collect all 18 to get a special GALAXY OPAL-rank card.
• Throwback Packs: Every two weeks two franchises will be featured with their best throwback players.

What's MyTeam Unlimited?

• This is a brand-new mode. Try to win as many games in a block of 12 before getting three losses. The fewer losses you have, the better the reward will be.
• If you go 12-0 you'll get a player of the month card.
• Get every player of the month card and you'll earn a GALAXY OPAL Isaiah Thomas card.

What's Triple Threat?

• Triple Threat is played offline and online.
• In offline you must defeat every NBA team in three-on-three ball.
• If you beat a team on the first try you'll get MyTeam Points, and beating a full division earns Reward Tokens.
• Beat all six divisions to unlock a seventh tier with the best rewards.
• Rewards for games include MTP, Triple Threat Packs or special event cards.
• In online, the goal is to play 10 games with a max of three losses to earn up to five prize balls. Those with high ranks can even earn prize balls after a loss.
• Prize balls are dropped into a virtual machine and the player gets the reward the ball lands on.

What are Reward Tokens?

• Reward tokens are redeemed at the Reward Market, and there are different markets based on the tiers of cards. The GALAXY OPAL Market, for example, has the best loot.
• Use tokens to buy packs, limited-edition cards and special packs before they officially go on sale.

Challenges

• There are five per week, and they don't expire.
• New weekly multiplayer challenges do expire.
• Two 15-game schedule challenges will be revealed every two weeks. They're based on shorter scenarios instead of full games. Beat all 15 to get a Throwback Pack and three Reward Tokens.
• Moments Challenges also return.
• Challenges give you MTP and high-end free agent cards.

Domination Rework

• Play games in any order you want and feel free to switch divisions.
• Get Reward Tokens for beating each division.
• Different Domination modes include NBA Domination (standard teams), Fantasy Domination (fantasy teams) and All-Time Domination (All-Time Teams).

Daily Trials

• Three stat-based objectives that get harder as you go. The bigger the challenge, the greater the reward.

How Locker Codes Work

• Codes will still be limited and timed.
• A new type of Locker Code doesn't have a limit, and it's essentially a single prize ball drop that offers a one-in-10 shot at the featured card.

Collector Levels Return

• Bigger card collections get bigger rewards.
• Card collections can now be searched, and your newest cards will be easier to find.

UI & Auction Updates

• In-game notifications remind you of important events.
• The glossary recaps the rules for new players.
• The UI puts the most important content up front.
• In the auction, cards you already have are marked. Critical info is also displayed without having to mouse over each item.
• You can now see your full lineup beyond the starting five, and you can easily search for the players you'd like to add.

Even in bullet format, there's a lot to unpack with regard to MyTeam in NBA 2K19. The new modes of play will help to lure those who've been overwhelmed by the idea in the past, but those who understand its conceits may not like what's been summarized above. As has always been the case, MyTeam players will need to juggle various virtual currencies while praying to RN-Jesus for the best possible drop. Whether you're opening card packs or getting rewards from prize balls, it'll still be difficult to assemble the best possible team.

Overall, MyTeam in NBA 2K19 will be a win for some, but those with addictive tendencies would be best advised to stay away.

NBA 2K19 comes to Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC Sept. 11. Those who buy the special edition can play the game four days early.
