A mom of two from Texas is going viral for flipping the script on a common stereotype.

Jessica Gonzales, 41, posted a reel on Instagram (@jogwithjess_), saying who she thinks the real gold diggers really are: men.

On the text overlay, she wrote: "The real gold diggers are the men who expect you to take care of them, their parents, clean their house, wash and iron their clothes, give birth to their children, manage their emotions, and on top of that, go to work and contribute 50/50 to the expenses."

Gonzales told Newsweek that her intent was to both entertain and challenge entrenched double standards in relationships and marriage.

"We, as women, are often expected to juggle a demanding career, household responsibilities, child care, and the emotional toll seamlessly—and when we can't, we're judged harshly. On the other hand, men who take on even a fraction of these roles are often celebrated and praised," Gonzales said.

The 41-year-old, who has a son and a daughter, held the mental load responsible for one of the biggest challenges in family dynamics.

"Even though I don't do all the daily tasks at home—like running the kids to and from sports or managing every household chore—I feel the constant pressure of having to remember everything," Gonzales said.

"If I forget, it feels like I've failed as a mom or wife. At the same time, my husband, who has more flexibility in his work schedule, gets praised for doing things like school drop-offs and laundry, or helping with dinner—things that are simply part of daily life," she said.

Gonzales' reel clocked up over 5 million views and almost 4,000 comments from other social-media users, many of whom found the sentiment relatable.

"How I felt this in my bones," one wrote. "You mean my ex husband," another posted. A third user came up with their own alternative label for the type that of man that Gonzales was referring to: "soul diggers."

Gonzales said that she also received a lot of criticism online, "particularly from men who assumed things about me, like that I don't work or that my husband earns more than me. It just showed me how deeply ingrained some stereotypes are.

"Women are often labeled as 'gold diggers,' even when they're working just as hard, or harder, than their partners.

"The reel was less about my personal experience and more about highlighting the bigger cultural expectations women face," she added.
