A mom thought her infant son was content and enjoying the view out the window when she checked on the baby cam installed in her car, but there was a problem.
Vicky Meumann told Newsweek she had wanted to get the babycam for her car for some time. “I wanted the camera because I felt like when I looked in my rear view mirror it took my focus off the road,” Meumann said.
“With the camera it’s still in my line of sight with the road and I can quickly glance at the screen instead of looking up into my mirror which wasn’t the clearest view of him anyway.”

Eager to keep costs down, Meumann turned to Temu, the popular e-commerce platform, for a discount option. She’s not alone in turning to Temu for a cheap alternative to more expensive named brands.
How Popular Is Temu in the US?
According to report published by Backlinko, as of October 2025, an estimated 133.6 million Americans used the Temu mobile app at least once a month. For some, Temu's array of discount items can become an obsession, others have been judged for what they purchase there. A few may have even been left with buyer's remorse. Meumann might be one of them.
Newsweek has contacted Temu for comment.
She was able to source a car babycam via Temu but soon discovered it came with a pretty glaring flaw. Driving along with her infant son the in backseat one day, Meumann checked in on the cam and saw her son seeming “content” and “checking out the scenery” out of his window.
A few minutes later, she checked in again. Her son was still looking out of the window. More minutes passed and, once again, when checked, her son was staring out of the window, in the same way he had been before.
Product Problem
It was at that point that Meumann grew suspicious. So, when it was safe to do so, she decided to see what was going on for herself. That was when she spotted her son fast asleep and realized there was a problem. “The camera obviously froze on my baby wide awake and then when I checked in the mirror he was sleeping,” she said.
Meumann couldn't help but laugh. After parking up, she felt compelled to pick up her phone and highlight what had happened.

Social Media Reactions
The resulting clip was eventually posted to her TikTok @vickymeumann where it went viral. At the time of writing it has been watched 3.8 million times. “I’m crying, this is hilarious,” one user wrote. “I’m sorry this had me laughing,” another added.
Despite the minor mishap, Meumann says she has continued to use the camera to keep an eye on her son. “The camera just has periods where it froze, this was actually the first time it froze and has only happened once more, so not too much of an issue,” she said. “I still have the mirror by him in case this happens and as a second option to see him.”
So while it may have not worked just right on this occasion, it hasn’t put Meumann off shopping with Temu again. “The video was just for laughs, not necessarily hating on Temu,” she said. “I love Temu.”
