An 11-year-old’s tender reaction to her mom’s gray hair has left social media users emotional after the story went viral on Threads.

Emi Ralph (@coppermoonwitch) shared the moment on the platform, where the post has been viewed more than 188,000 times. In her post, she recalled noticing her daughter studying the gray roots she has been letting grow out.

"Last night, I washed my hair. My youngest kid, 11, was staring at my head. I felt a little self conscious as she was looking at the gray roots that I am letting grow out, and asked 'You looking at my gray hair?'" she wrote.

Ralph said her daughter quickly corrected her, offering a line that has since melted hearts online. "I know you SAY gray, but they're... they're silver. Actually silver. Like starlight. You look pretty. Like a fairy," she said.

The moment ended on a charmingly ordinary note as her daughter wandered off to get "a bowl of cereal for her supper."

Threads users were quick to share their own stories and words of encouragement, joining in the celebration of natural gray hair.

"I stopped coloring my hair a few years ago and a little girl stopped me in the mall to tell me how pretty my 'glitter extensions' were. I’ve fully embraced the sparkle now!" shared Ashley.

"I don’t let people call my hair gray. I correct them 'it’s silver,'" added Jennifer Traxler.

"I’m letting mine grow out and my 16 y/o said my hair looked 'really cool, like Rogue from the X-Men' and if you’ve ever met a 16 y/o girl, you know I was riding that high for weeks!" wrote Evin.

"This is my hair, its brand new hair, I lost my original hair due to illness. I'm not going to dye it, I'm actually growing quite fond of it just the way it is," added Wendy Smith.

"Mine grew out during lockdown and contrary to the hairdresser saying it was gray, it is in fact sparkling silver. I sometimes highlight it with shades of purple and I love it," shared Karen Pauley.

"Yes I call it my fairy dust. My dad’s side gray early—so I stayed graying in my early 30s. The year I turned 40 I let it grow out. Now, channeling my inner Rogue & Storm," said another user.

One commenter shared a childhood memory that echoed the sweetness of Ralph’s post: "This is so sweet! Hopefully you can see yourself the way she sees you.

"When my nephew was younger he asked me if I was older than his mother. I jokingly said 'yes, and do you know how you can tell? I have white hair and your mommy doesn’t.' He cocked his head to one side and considered me very seriously and said 'I think your hair just looks shiny.'"
